Caffeine Overdose

So, I hung out with a friend of mine last night and didn't get home til like 12:15am and didn't get into bed til like 12:30am. I'm usually asleep by 11p. So, I'm extra damn tired today. I went to the bakery to get some coffee and a muffin. Instead of my usual half & half, I had full strength coffee. It wasn't until about 45 mins later that I realized that I had forgotten the damn muffin! So, I got yet another cup of full strength (because obviously I still wasn't awake) and grabbed my forgotten blueberry muffin.

And now, my heart is racing and the room is a bit starry, so I think I've had toooo much caffeine :P And even after all that, I still want to just go home and go to bed.

Gettin old sux :P

Missy's 3x Thursday

1. What's your favorite 'chill' (mellow, relaxing, etc) activity? Why?
It depends on your definition of chill. To me, that could mean anything from watching tv to sitting on the puter to having a drink. My favorite chill *event* would definatly have to be Chillits. I've gone twice now and have had an awsome time.

2. When you go out, where do you like to go? What do you like to do?
I don't go out too much. I'm mostly a homebody. But I'll go to a bar from time to time. And more and more, I can be lured to events (parties, concerts, etc). At the end of the day, tho, I really like staying at home and relaxing.

3. What's your favorite comfort food? Why? Do you keep some on hand for emergencies?
I love chocolate. It comforts me when I'm down. Right now, my favorite chocolate are these chocolate covered toffee coated pistachios from Trader Joe's. Damn those things are good. And yes, I always have some on hand.

Bonus Question for Comments: How's life? Is it treating you well right now?
Life is good and it's treating me pretty well these days! Zero complaints!

Good

I wouldn't classify myself as a pessimist, but I'm not always an optimist either. I usually see the negative in something before I see the positive, but I wouldn't call myself the most negative person in the world. I suppose it depends on the day.

However, I've been in a much better frame of mind as of late. Josh and I are finally starting to settle into the new apartment, and that means less arguments about stupid shit. Things are *finally* slowing down social-wise also. I'm not sick anymore and all of the engagements I've committed to are about over. There's an event in November, but that's a whole month away.

But ever since Chillits, I've been in a pretty damn good mood everyday. I have my ups and downs, but the good moods are outweighing the bad ones, and I'm pretty greatful for that. The same thing happened last year. Chillits just does something to me that makes me see the bright side of things. I think it's all the fresh air or something.

Anyway, so there's my 'yay life' promo for today :P

Influential

So for awhile, I've been wanting to compile the albums that have shaped my life in one form or another or changed how I listened to music. Most of these albums are quite old now, and what shaped me was the music I listened to growing up. This is a working list, and in no particular order of importance, here goes....

Guns 'n' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
I was 12 and not angry, but looking for something that wasn't pop. I went thru like 2 or 3 copies of this tape before I bought the CD. I remember my grandmother (Williams) giving me massive amounts of shit for liking these guys. She just couldn't understand how I could listen to these guys without developing a bad attitude. *shrug*

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
My first job was at this cafeteria called MCL in Indiana. And sometimes we got to sit in the back and listen to headfones while we hand-rolled silverware. And this chick that I mostly didn't care for let me listen to her headfones one day and this tape was in it. What struck me the most was the fact that there wasn't the usual 2-3 seconds of silence from song to song. Each song seemed to flow into the other. And this was on tape. It ended up being the first CD I ever bought. To this day I love this album.

Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual
I had a boyfriend in 1995 who *loved* Jane's, and I always hated them because the couple of radio songs they had out I thought sucked badly. And he kept telling me I needed to listen to Ritual and I kept telling him to stuff it. And one Saturday, he made me sit down and listen to '3 Days', at which point I fell madly in love with this album. I would have to say that the last 4 songs on this album are probly some of the most erotic music I've ever heard before or since.

Tesla - The Great Radio Controversy
This was totally my cousin's influence. While I initially bought this album for 'Love Song' (bleh!), I'm totally glad I moved past track #11 :P. This album changed my life. As a angst-ridden 13yo, this tape somehow convinced me that even tho life sucked, I should stick around to see what happens. I went thru 3 or 4 tapes and 2 or 3 CDs before I just ripped the damn thing to mp3 and was done with it. But since that time, I've developed a major appreciation for Tesla, and to this day they're my #1 flavorite band in the entire world. What can I say, I have a weakness for good down-home rock and roll.

Tool - Undertow
I broke up with my fiance in January of 1995. In February, one of my internet friends called me up and said, "Bitch, go get yourself a copy of Tool's 'Undertow'. NOW!'. So, I borrowed a friend of mine's copy. Man, what a great album. From beginning to 'let the rabbits wear glasses!', it just r0x. Fucking wierd time signatures, lyrics, meanings....it's awsome. However, never *ever* fall asleep to this album. I made the mistake of doing that once. I had the wierdest dreams ever. And like with Tesla, I just heart Tool, and they made it to #2 on my all time flavorite band list. Ah, if only Maynard was single....

Faith No More - The Real Thing
I don't have a real reason why, but this album forever changed how I listen to music. I just remember listening to that album for the first time and being moved. It was 1990 I think? I was at the end of my 8th grade year. I remember flying over Florida that summer listening to 'Underwater Love' and 'The Morning After'. I even had 'Zombie Eaters' dedicated to me from one of my friends. I was taken by Patton's singing. And even tho 'Introduce Yourself' (sans Patton, with Mosley) is my favorite FNM album, 'The Real Thing' was the album that drew me in. And to this day, when someone mentions "the fish song", most everybody knows what it means :)

Queensryche - Empire
Ah, the summer of 1991. I spent most of that summer at Micah's house, and this was one of the albums we'd listen to over and over and over again. It's just a *good* album. It's also probly the best well-produced/well-mastered albums I've ever heard.

Alice In Chains - Facelift
So, It's April or May 1991, and I'm watching 'Headbanger's Ball' one night and the world premier video for 'Man In The Box' comes on. Some wierd fucking band with eyelids sewn shut. I was 15, what the hell did I know? :P. Anyway, I remember thinking it was a cool song and I went out and bought the tape. *Awsome* album. Raw, dirty, deep, and the musicianship on this album is tight. In June, a friend of mine called me up and wanted to know if I wanted to go to a free concert. We show up, get our tickets (10th row!) and it's Alice In Chains, Anthrax, Megadeath, and Slayer. And I remember everyone going, "Who the *fuck* are Alice In Chains?". And I remember singing along with the songs and saying, "These guys are gonna be huge!". I had a good ear for that kinda thing back then. And to this day, it's still one of my favorite albums. I usually always have an AIC album in the car.

Pearl Jam - Ten
In January of 1992, this tape somehow ended up in my poessession. My jerk boyfriend at the time bought it for me or something. Anyway, this is another one of those albums close to my heart. At the time, I was way into metal (and this is before grunge really took off), but Pearl Jam appealed to my need for finding 'mellow' music. This was one of the first albums that made me venture outside the metal genre. And even tho Pearl Jam tends to be hit or miss these days, I still love this album.

Smashing Pumpkins - Gish and also Siamese Dream
In December of 1991, we took a band trip from IN to AZ. I had this total crush on this guy named Todd Newby. I was going thru his tapes and saw some band called Smashing Pumpkins. All I knew about this band was that they were from Chicago and they pissed a bunch of people off in Bloomington in October of 1991 when they opened up for RHCP and smashed pumpkins on stage, totally pissing everyone off. Thinking that 'gish' was a wierd name for an album, I asked if I could listen to it. I toally got into that album. And 'Siamese Dream' was another close-to-my-heart album for me. I remember riding on a bus to some marching band competition to Evansville listening to that album. Road trips with that album were always full of memories too. And altho I stopped listening to them after 'Mellon Collie', I still love these 2 albums and usually at least one of them stays in my Ipod.

Dentists and Monsters

So, I had a dental cleaning yesterday. After all of my horrific dental experiences in the past, I wasn't looking forward to this visit *or* having to justify my request for nitrous even for a cleaning. But these people were totally nice! It's one of those state-of-the-art offices with computers in every exam room, digital x-rays, etc. Kinda neato. And they gave me zero shit for wanting nitrous. And...best part (well, aside from the disturbingly evil 'tooth' sticker I got for being good)? No cavities! w00h00! My teeth still hurt from all of the digging around they did, but it'll pass. So, I'm greatful for my not shitty experience at the dentist yesterday. I will definatly go back to them.

After work yesterday, Steph & Whit stopped by so she could get the bachelorette party pictures she took off my camera. And, she brought back Trogdor's Food Container (inside joke) because she r0x. I totally forgot to grab it when I left G-ville Sunday morning. Josh made chicken risotto for dinner and afterwards, he made me lemondrops. After the kids went home, Josh and I spent the rest of the night playing w0w. I had a bunch of upper-level quests I needed help with.

This morning, I'm *tiiiired*. Vodka martinis always make me just want to crawl under my desk and take a nap the next morning :P. I also took my car in for an oil change. w00pEE! :P

Anyway, the bosslady's due back in the office today and I have a huge, tedious project I need to get back to work on.

Drowning in estrogen

So, I went to an all-weekend bachelorette party in Guerneville this weekend. I left Walnut Creek around 1p and got to Santa Rosa around 2:30p. I went and hooked up with an old friend of mine until it was time to go to my chiropractic appointment. I heart my chiro guy. It had been a year and a half since I had a proper adjustment, but the soreness afterwards was well worth it! So, the girly party.... while I know the bride had a good time (that was the entire point, wasn't it?), I had fun also, but I'm glad it's over. 15 chicks in one house is a bit much. I woke up around 7:30a (way before the rest of the house) and was packed and on the road by 8. I stopped in Santa Rosa for coffee and gas, and was home by 10a. I unpacked, had some more coffee, and putzed around until 2 or so when I took a shower cause I had a BBQ to go to in El Cerrito.

After a beer stop on the way, we made it to the BBQ where I got to sit among really smart and geeky (and a few were even cute! yay for cute!) *guys* and soak up the testosterone in the air :P. I'm serious..I've been around enough estrogen to have had my fill for....well, the rest of my life :P. So, good food was had (shrimp and tri-tip), good beer was drunk, hottubbing was hot, and the company good. The hops in the beer got to Josh towards the end of the evening, so we went home an I put him in bed. All in all, it was a very nice end to an otherwise ubber girly weekend.

I'm anticipating this week being a good week. No specific reason really, I just think it'll be a good week. Things are going well in my life right now. I'm finally making new friends, job is good, boy is good, cats are good....no complaints, really!

Anyway, I better get crackin. I have a dentist (see horrified look on my face) appointment this morning in a bit. But, I requested nitrous (yes, even for a cleaning...I'm a huge wuss when it comes to dentists now) and I've got my ipod, so all will be good. After that, Josh and I are going to lunch. I don't really have much else planned for the week. I may be hanging out with a new friend of mine at some point, but I'm enjoying the overall downtime in my life right now. This spring/summer was entirely way too hectic and busy.

Missy's Monday Madness

1. Holiday in Europe or Asia?
Europe.

2. How do you try to change a behavior pattern you don't like about yourself... whether it's chewing fingernails, overeating, smoking, or picking your nose?
By stopping myself when I find myself starting to do that behavior. Self-modification is a good thing.

3.Have you ever successfully completed a Sudoku puzzle?
No. While someone taught me to do them and I get the concept, I'm more of a fill-it-ins kinda girl.

4. What website do you visit the most often?
I usually follow what's in my blogroll list.

5. What was your favorite thing about high school or college?
Highschool: I was way into marching band and tech theater. Those 2 things occupied most of my time. I absolutly hated college. Every damn minute of the 5.5 years I was there. The only things that kept me sane were Brent and Squeeek.

New music!

Bonobo - Days To Come: Awsome! I expected nothing but great things from Bonobo, and I was not dissapointed! I liked it the first time I heard it. It's mellow, groovy, soulful, and even tho I don't like lyrics (or singing chicks) in my triphop, he does a great job incorporating them into the songs on this album. So, good jorb, dood!

DJ Shadow - The Outsider: Ug. I was *so* dissapointed by this album. Out of 17 songs, over half are rap. And I *cannot stand* rap music. Thugs rapping over beats makes me want to go listen to something else. I was expecting another downtempo *nice* DJ Shadow album, but instead got this. I'm sure there are people who will totally eat up this sort of thing, but it will not get another listen from me if I don't have to.

Peeping Tom - Peeping Tom. If you like anything that Mike Patton does, you'll love this album. If you like breaks and triphop dj's, you'll love this album too. For those of you who don't know, Patton fronted Mr.Bungle as well as Faith No More. He got a bunch of electronic (and not-so electronic) people together like Massive Attack, Norah Jones, Kid Koala, Amon Tobin, and Dan The Automator, threw in his own special, twisted brand of lyrics, and wallah! It really *is* a cool album, and I totally reccomend it. You won't be sorry!

Spaceballs the Cartoon!

Oy vey. I dunno weather to laugh or cry:

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Mel Brooks is developing an animated TV series based on his comedy feature "Spaceballs."

Like the 1987 movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics.

It is set to debut on cable network G4 in fall 2007. Production has already started on an initial batch of 13 episodes.

Brooks, who will voice two characters in the show, co-wrote the pilot with longtime collaborator Thomas Meehan, who will oversee all writing for the series.

Missy's 3x Thursday

1. What do you think about this whole Thailand coup thing? Do you think over-throwing a government is just? If there was enough reason to do so, would you help accomplish such a task? Why/why not?
I find the whole Thailand thing highly interesting. Especially the fact that a: it was bloodless (thus, welcomed) and b: they did it when the reigning dooder was in the USA. I am genuinely starting to become worried about the state of what the US government wants versus what its people wants. I think if the government doesn't start paying at least a *little* attention to what the people want, something drastic might be entertained. Tho I'm no activist nor am I very political, I'm quite interested in seeing what the outcome is. January 2009 is a *long time* from now.

2. Iran. What do you think of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his politics? Aside from his eccentricities, do you really think he's an enemy or is doing bad things? Why/why not?
I have the view that most people in power (not *all*, but most) really do have their people's best interest at heart. While it may not match what *we* do, not everyone has the same opinions on how to live life. In regard to Ahmandinejad, so okay he thinks Israel should be wiped off the map and the Holocaust didn't exist (cuckoo!), but aside from those (2 rather big) things, maybe he really *is* trying to look out for his people? How do we know they're not happy? The culture is *completely different* than ours. How do we know what is 'free' and what isn't? I can understand why people don't want him to have nuclear warheads (Israel being the biggest reason), but a man needs to defend his country, does he not? I mean, we do, don't we? I think he had a point tho when he said world powers are a thing of the past. The Atlantic Charter of 1941 decolonized the world and the super-powers came to be. Maybe 65 years later it's time to think outside the box and do something else? There's no good answer, but again, I'm looking forward to seeing how things pan out.

3. What do you think about open relationships? Do you think couples who do this are playing with fire, or do you think it can work? Would you ever do it? Why/why not?
Wow, topic switch! I think open relationships can work depending on the couple. I suppose it can be a tricky thing to balance sometimes, but with the right amount of communication and trust, I see no reason for it not to work. I can't honestly believe that people don't like to spice up their lives, and that's certainly one way to do it. And being with someone that you aren't normally with is thrilling. As Trent Reznor once wrote, "...nothin' quite like the feel of something new...". Truer words were never written! But, we're all different and we all have our own opinions. What works for some doesn't work for others. The trick is having an open mind about the whole thing. I've come to terms with it, but for a long time I was pretty close-minded. Evolution of the human being is a fascinating thing.

Bonus Question for Comments: Even if you don't do politics, what do you think of the upcoming mid-term elections? Do you think it'll be same ole, same ole, or do you think something siginificant could happen this time around? Why/why not?
I'm not really sure at this point. It could be more of the same, or the whole thing could be turned on its head. It's really a toss-up. It depends on what happens in the next month and a half. *Anything* could happen to completely change the outcome. We'll just have to see and then deal with the outcome when the votes are counted.

Rare form

I'm in rare form today. I got up before my alarm and was like, "Okay, let's get up". And for once, I didn't feel rushed this morning. I went and pet Squeeek, then I went to take a shower. I looked at my clothes, then myself in the mirror and said, "Fuck it!". I put on jeans and this year's Chillits shirt, put on my sandals, and went to work. While I don't normally dress down like this for work (cause, well, it's work!), a day here and there never killed anyone. I had a dissapointing cup of coffee (usually it's good, but today it was substandard), and now I need to do some work.

Friday, I'm leaving Oakland around 2pm to trek up to Santa Rosa to go see my chiropractor. After trying a few people here, no one comopares to Brian. After that, I'm going to a bachelorette party. While I'm a bit leary, I think it'll still be fun. I'm not really into the whole chickie thing, but I was invited and I do like the bride, so I'll go along with it. Sunday, I think I'm going to a cook-out. Gotta email the dooder about that today.

So anyway, that's what's going on here. I gotta make some time to go to Costco and pick up my glasses tonight maybe. I haven't had a new pair in 10 years so when my perscription changed, I figured what the hell!

Yes, he has a home!

So, I shut off my fone on Friday afternoon and did not turn it on again until yesterday morning when I got to work. There was no cell service at Chillits (thank goodness), and I just plain didn't want to talk to anybody on Sunday.

When I turned on my fone, it started yelling at me that I had voicemail. It was this guy calling, asking if z0rg was mine, and if he had a home. Eh? So I called him back and he was just making sure z0rggy had a home because he has taken to sleeping underneath the house next to the guy. He was also concerned because z0rg's tag has a different area code than Oakland, and also because he looks so skinny.

So, I explained to him that yes, z0rggy indeed has a home and that he even sleeps underneath the covers with me! I let him know the phone number was correct. Sure it's a 707 area code even tho we live in 510, but I've had that number for 5 years and didn't see any point in changing it when I moved. Also, z0rg spent the first 3-4 months of his life outside, and so I think he *prefers* to sleep out there. z0rg used to weigh a bit more, but I noticed him getting skinny after B and I broke up. He's lost a little more weight since then, but he seems fine, so I don't worry about it. He may *look* skinny, but when I pick him up, he's all muscle. If he starts acting wierd or something, I'll take him to the vet, but I think he's fine. I also informed the guy of z0rg's mental state. He's got this little divot in his head that he was borne with. I'm not sure that his skull formed all the way. So, he's not stupid, but he's a little slow. *Smart* actually, but slow. He's my little special needs kitty. You just gotta let him do things at his own pace. So anyway, I assured the guy that z0rg had a home and that he's healthy *and* happy.

At first I wanted to take offense to the fact that the guy was calling...until I remembered that I had done the same thing a couple of times in the past. Once a cat person, always a cat person, and cats pick up on this. I've had cats camped out in my house for months until one day they wanted to go home. So I've made the phone calls saying, "Hi, your cat is fine and he's been staying at my house lately". The owners always were like, "Oh...yeah, he does that. Okay!". Cats are wierd creatures :P

z0rg slept with Josh last night, and hung around with me this morning while I got ready. As long as he gets his loves and his treats, he's a happy camper. Now if only I could get him and his sister to stop eating Squeeek's food!

MJK and Hitler

I had wierd dreams last night/this morning. The one I sort of remember had me and Maynard James Keenan in it, and we were in Hitler's Germany. And I can't remember my role, but I wasn't a prisioner, but I wasn't exactly free either or something. I don't remember much more than that.

Oh, the crazy shit that goes on in my subconscience :P

Missy's Monday Madness

1. How do you eat an oreo cookie?
I like the double-stuffed ones. Take it apart, eat the stuffing, then eat the cookies. I also love to dunk them in 7up and let them get semi-soft and eat them that way. I know, I'm wierd.

2. How long does it take you to eat lunch?
5-10 mins. I don't like to mess around.

3. Caffeine or decaf?
half-caff.

4. Chicken or beef?
Both, but chicken is healthier.

5. Pen or pencil?
Depends on what I'm doing.

6. Autumn or spring?
Depends. On where I am now, there's no real difference. But if I'm somewhere with real seasons and lots of trees, Fall.

7. Baseball or basketball?
Baseball.

8. 'Survivor' or 'The Amazing Race?'
*Absolutly* neither.

9. Come up with one question I can ask our Monday Madness participants in the weeks to come.
Nah. I have a hard enough time coming up with questions for my 3x Thursday.

Chillits

Chillits 2006 was just as awsome as it was last year! I hung out on the lawn/surrounding areas a lot, I listened to good music (albeit sometimes strange at times), chilled out, caught up with people I hadn't seen since last Chillits, met new people, smoke, ate, drank, and made out with a good lookin guy. Can I ask for a better weekend? :)

But now I'm so damn tired that it's only 7:20 and I can hardly keep my eyes open.

Josh and I took a shower when we got home and he's spent the rest of the day playing Civ while I have beenwatching West Wing. I'll unpack tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm too tired to think or write much more.

Under the 'learn how to drive' catagory...

Yes, I've been persnickity all week so far :P

I have a 15 mile commute to and from work everyday. While 15 miles is no big deal, the Bay Area has some of the worst traffic ever anywhere. It's a combonation of people who don't follow traffic rules and the sheer number of people who travel the roads around here everyday. It's insane. I have a reverse commute, and I've been pretty unhappy when I get to my final destination lately. Traffic's gotten extremely bad since school started again. I can't figure out why, tho. *shrug*

Anyway, because I have a reverse commute each way, the Caldecott Tunnel is only 2 lanes instead of 4. This means that 4 lanes of traffic have to merge into 2 lanes. For whatever silly reason, people feel that if they get into the far left-hand lane, they'll get in front of everyone else and get thru the tunnel first. Experiementing over the months, I have found this to be false. Not only that, but it's a major cause of backing up traffic. And, it's fucking dangerous! I have a personal rule that if I'm in the correct lane to go thru the tunnel, that last car in the far left-hand lane who thinks they can get in front of me after I've sat in the 'correct' lane is *sorely* mistaken. I've pissed off a handful of people that way. But you know what? I don't give a shit. Why? Because, these assholes need to learn that the world does *not* revolve around them. Everyone is equal, and for them to be so egotistical to think that they should not have to wait in traffic like the rest of us...well...they learn the hard way that this is not the case. And I'm more than happy to teach that lesson.

Another cause of congestion is the fact that people cut in front of each other when changing lanes. I'm pretty sure in the DMV driving book it says that you have to use your fucking turn signal! So this morning, this white Honda cuts in front of me while chaning lanes, not using their turn signal, and I almost hit them. I laid on the horn for a good 30 seconds embarassing them, giving them the 'use the damn turn signal!!' sign. They just waved at me. *rolls eyes*. But when they made 2 *more* lane changes, I watched them use their turn signal! Good for them! I gave them the tumbs up sign *and* let them get in front of me :)

See? Follow the damn traffic rules and not only will traffic move smoother, but you won't piss everyone off in the process!

This entry has been brought to you by the national Stop Driving Like A Fucking Idiot Coalition.

Missy's 3x Thursday

1. While living your day-to-day life, what are 3 things you look forward to throughout the week?
Sleeping in on the weekends, getting to the *end* of the work week, and being fairly lazy after working all week.

2. Thinking into the future, what are 3 things you look forward to achieving?
When I grow up, I finally want to get my teaching credentials. I also look forward to growing old and seeing what happens with the world. I wanna be one of those people that says, "I can remember 100 years ago when this was different...". And finally I'm interested what kind of person I will be in say, 60 years. I'm a huge work in process. I've achieved some things, but not others so far. I'm interested in knowing how things pan out.

3. Do you look forward to weekends? Why?
Yes! I love sleeping in. I also love having a leisurely cup of coffee on the weekends. The weekends are also when I do a majority of my housecleaning and I'm one of those wierd people who likes to clean most of the time. And lastly, I just love being lazy and knowing I don't have to go to work the next day.

Bonus Question for Comments: Got anything special coming up that you're looking foward to? What is it?
Yes! I'm going to Chillits tomorrow! I haven't partied at all in 5 months in anticipation of this weekend. It should be a blast!

Under the 'fucking DUH!' catagory...

IT people “twice as likely” to wear heavy metal t-shirt as other people

NEW YORK (September 13, 2006) - According to new research, IT staff are twice as likely to wear a heavy metal t-shirt as their non-IT counterparts. The study of 1000 office workers, by Intermedia.NET, the leading Microsoft Exchange host, also found IT types 34% more likely to sport a ponytail. Other key findings:

* Black jeans are 63% more popular among IT types than other workers
* IT workers are 32% less likely to wear clean clothes every day of the week than business managers
* Business and IT people are equally likely to wear a cellphone belt clip

The survey also found that despite unhelpful stereotyping such as Apple’s ‘Mac and PC’ commercials, IT and business people are equally likely – at 5% each – to wear dated 1990s spectacles.

Confirming one stereotype, however, was the finding that IT workers were almost twice as likely to carry a Maglite and a Leatherman. Both businesspeople and IT people prefer a Leatherman over a MagLite, and are 20% more likely to carry one.

“Our research provides an interesting insight into the life of IT people,” said Rurik Bradbury, VP marketing for Intermedia.NET. “Our large Microsoft Gold Certified team of engineers was comforted that IT people are twice as likely to wear Megadeth and similar t-shirts, and that black jeans and ponytails are still hot items. However, they were distraught to find that the cellphone belt clip has gone ‘mainstream’ and lost its identification with the IT subculture.”

One interesting finding from the study was that IT staff are more likely to wear an expensive suit than a cheap one. While business staff are still far more likely to wear any suit at all, IT people shun cheap suits, with 33% more of them choosing a pricey suit over a bargain one. Fake expensive watches are currently not popular among techies, with only 2% of IT people admitting to wearing one.

“Intermedia.NET believes the findings in this study to be very valuable,” added Bradbury. “Both business managers and IT professionals are quickly adopting hosted Microsoft Exchange, and this research helps us to better understand the mindset of our customers.”

My reply:
Did you *really* need a study for this? Why are yall doing pointless
articles on things that we've known for years? Is it a slow technology
day or something?

*mumbles*...twice as likely to wear heavy metal t-shirts and black
jeans...well DUH!

Please don't reply, I just had to let you know just how ridiculous I
thought this article was.

When it makes FARK, it'll have the 'obvious' tag on it.

Missy's Monday Madness

1. How long have you been blogging?
I've had my own webpage for 10 years. I've only been blogging (in the traditional sense) since 2002.

2. How many times have you taken a break from blogging?
I never have. If I want to post something, I do. If I don't, I don't.

3. How long is the longest you've gone, so far, without posting on your blog?
Usually only 3 or 4 days at the most. People will start asking after awhile if I don't post.

4. How many fellow bloggers do you keep in touch with, through your blogs, on a regular basis?
A few. Probly a couple of handfuls.

5. Have you ever met, in person, a blogger on your blogroll?
Yup. It's nothing new tho...I was an IRC junkie for about 6 years. Meeting people comes with the territory if you're hardcore into it.

6. How often do you update/change the 'extra' stuff on your blog?
Usually when I'm really bored, which isn't too often.

7. Do you think you'll be blogging for years to come?
Who knows? I could be gone tomorrow. But until then, if people keep reading, I'll keep posting.
